Discover the list of foods to lower uric acid levels.
Uric acid is a substance that degrades when our body produces purines. It appears due to the body’s functioning and through the food we eat.
Some of them, those that are very rich in animal protein such as fatty meats and fish, have a high level of purines.
When the body metabolizes them, uric acid is produced. Some are used by the body in cell regeneration and others are discarded in the form of uric acid.
If there is excessive consumption of proteins and there are certain genetic conditions, these uric acid crystals are deposited in the joints and can cause acute discomfort or become chronic arthritis.
They can also trigger a gout attack. Most people with high uric acid go to the doctor with pain in a joint, since that is where the purines have been placed.
The parts of the body where these crystal deposits are most generated are the ears, elbow, hands, knees, and ankles.
Having high uric acid can lead to conditions such as kidney stones, gout, metabolic syndrome, or high blood pressure.
If you want to prevent this type of disease and avoid hyperuricemia, you have to control your diet to be able to modify the pH of the urine and help in its elimination, ingesting few purines and almost eliminating fructose from the diet.
It is important to avoid fasting for long periods, not to gain weight, to drink at least two liters of water a day, not to drink alcohol, and not to eat foods rich in purines. On the list of foods that reduce uric acid would be:
• Soups such as vegetable broth and non-fat broth.
• Any vegetable, legume, or fruit.
• White meats such as chicken and turkey and beef, such as red meat (twice a week).
• Whitefish: Hake, sole, rooster.
• Olive or sunflower oil.
• Sugar or honey (twice a week).
• Sausages with less than 10% fat.
• Skimmed milk.
• Any drink that does not contain alcohol or excess sugar.
• One piece of fruit a day, selecting only those that do not have too much fructose (kiwi, mango, strawberries, oranges, melon, pineapple, or peach).
In the diet of people with high uric acid, there should be foods that are only taken in exceptional moments. They would be the following:
• Fatty meat broths.
• Fat red meats, animal entrails, hamburgers, and sausages.
• Any type of seafood.
• Fatty sausages.
• Fatty dairy: whole milk and aged cheese.
Some specialists consider that tomatoes must be eliminated from the diet of people with hyperuricemia due to their high content of fructose.
However, it can be consumed moderately, without the need to suppress it, but knowing that it is a vegetable with more fructose than a fruit.
In cases where a person is having a gout attack, there are some foods that they should not consume in any way, such as organ meats, sausages, red meat, or seafood.
