One of the treatments to reduce and eliminate vaginal yeast infection is based on a dietary plan that incorporates a series of foods with specific characteristics. However, when this infection appears it is essential to go to the gynecologist as soon as possible.

This specialist must evaluate the situation and study the different symptoms to establish a personalized treatment.

The main treatment to eliminate vaginal yeast infection is a diet plan that consists of ‘starving’ the infectious yeast. The first phase of treatment has an approximate duration of between 8 and 12 weeks.


Foods against vaginal candidiasis

In this first week, it will be convenient to eliminate certain foods from the diet and increase the consumption of other types that achieve efficacy in the treatment.

Once this period has passed, a new analysis by the gynecologist will be necessary. In many cases, it may happen that the vaginal yeast infection has disappeared.

From that moment on, the second phase of the treatment begins, consisting of approximately 8 weeks and where probiotic foods are incorporated.


Food for phase 1 against vaginal yeast infection

As we have previously pointed out, during the first phase of dietary treatment against vaginal candidiasis it is necessary to eliminate a series of foods. These are foods that fungi feed on and that therefore we should not eat. Among them are the following:

▪ Yeasts

▪ Alcohol.


▪ Sausages.

▪ Vinegar.

▪ Coffee.

▪ Tea.


▪ Energy drinks.

▪ Salt in excess.

Ideal foods for phase 1

On the other hand, during phase 1 for the treatment of vaginal candidiasis it is necessary to incorporate other specific foods that help to ‘starve’ the infectious fungi:


▪ Healthy fats.

▪ Spices galore.

▪ Ghee (healthy fat).

▪ Chia, pumpkin, or flax seeds.


▪ Fruits.

▪ Raw vegetables and green leafy vegetables.

▪ Algae.

▪ Whole grains.


▪ Walnuts.

▪ Almonds

▪ Chamomile, mint, parsley, or thyme infusions.

Treatment phase 2

Normally, by correctly following the diet plan of the treatment for vaginal yeast infection, it disappears. However, a second phase will be necessary to definitively end the infection.


From that moment on, it is advisable to follow the same diet for 8 weeks but adding probiotic foods. Experts warn of the importance of including probiotic foods now and not before.

If probiotic foods are consumed during the first phase, they could feed the infectious fungi, and then the treatment would lose its effectiveness.

In addition to probiotic foods, in this second phase, it is advisable to include fermented foods and avoid drinking water with each meal.

Once the vaginal yeast infection has been eliminated, experts recommend that the affected person adopt new healthy lifestyle habits; avoiding the intake of sugars or ultra-processed foods.
